Portrait:

How she wants others to see her (1): I asked my friend to help me with this portrait task. This image is presenting her in a posed way, she doesn’t seem to show any emotion at all in her face and her stance is representing the influence of social media and how most people’s appearances are fake on there. I’ve edited the image to sharpen up the quality and to accentuate the details of the model’s dressed up face, hair and clothes as well as turning up the exposure. The technique I used to capture this photo was the angle. This is the best photo I took because the camera angle showed the best reflection of my friend’s face in the mirror as well as her body, making the viewer look onto the scene, rather than being a part of it.

Showing her in an honest way (2): This image shows the model in an honest way because it shows the uncomforted look in her face and the stress that’s clearly affecting her. The way in which her eyes stare into the camera shows the need to connect to the viewer, and it tells a story. I’ve digitally edited the lighting to bring the focus point to the centre of the photo, where the subject is. The darkness is natural but also exaggerated by my editing. Portrait photographer Quil Lemons, who I’ve taken inspiration from, takes photos of people experiencing their raw emotions, capturing when they’re most vulnerable. This was what my friend and I agreed was her in her most vulnerable state.
Self portrait:

How I want others to see me (3): In this photo, I’m presenting myself as I would usually show myself on a normal day in public. I was feeling happy and content with my life as this portrait was captured. My being happy isn’t me being fake, but rather a side that the public sees. The image has colour, and a filter highlighting the warmth on my face (despite it being a cold day), as well as my hair and makeup done. This is me in a natural setting, but not necessarily how you’d find me because I know I’m being observed. Because of this, I made myself more posed for the picture and you can see me making eye contact with the camera. I took artist inspiration from Ricardo Nagaoka by posing in my natural surroundings and taking the way he creates humanity in his portraits; by capturing his subjects in their natural surroundings engaging with the camera.

Showing myself in an honest way (4): This photo of me has captured my raw emotions. My personal feelings are something I have always kept to myself and wouldn’t usually share with anyone else. I’m very private about my negative emotions especially, so this photo is me showing myself in the most honest way I can. I altered filter to black and white, to emphasise the pain I’m portraying. I feel this presents me in a more honest way at the given time, despite manipulating the colour and altering the image with filters. Ricardo Nagaoka’s portraits tell part of a story. Enough to draw you in and make you want to know more about the person in the photo. That is what my aim was with this photo.
