These are my observational drawings of a nude model, focusing on tone using charcoal. With each drawing, you can see my confidence grow with the variety of darker and lighter marks with the charcoal stick.

By using brown paper, it acted as a middle tone to the black and white chalk charcoal sticks. I found this quite tricky because I used a smaller scale, which restricted the way I could create a larger tonal range. Also, the paper acting as a middle tone threw me off balance because I had to leave gaps in between the black and white marks.

This was my final drawing of the session, by using both black and white I was able to blend the colours together to create some ashy grey tones.
